H K H 5:  T H E   B H A B H A   P A S S   T R E K   ( 7 D a y s )

This less traveled trail starts from the Pin Valley in Spiti and after going through the Spiti mountain ranges and crossing the Bhabha Pass also known as the Tarikhango Pass at 4865m enters the lush alpine valley of Kinnaur. You get the best of both landscapes one a stark barren hi-altitude desert and the other a land of lush green meadows and thick conifer forests. Starting from the tiny village of Mud on the Spiti side it ends at the tiny hamlet of Kafnu in Kinnaur. Extremely scenic with enchanting views of the Kinnaur and Spiti peaks.

Day 1: Kafnu to Mulling (3-4 Hours) Leaving the village of Kafnu we head eastward over a well-defined path through luxuriant forests of Pine and Deodar. You are rewarded with excellent views of the Spiti and Kinnaur mountain ranges. Evening camp at another tiny settlement at Mulling.

Day 2: Mulling to Tesa / Fushtring (5-6 Hours) Trek along the Wanger River and a forested green valley. A few stream crossings are involved. We reach the Bhaba Pass base and camp on the banks of the Wagner River.

Day 3: Tesa to Baldur (5-6 hours) Crossing the Pass we descend down a steep incline to the camping site at Baldur.

Day 4: Baldur - Mud (3-4 hours) We are now technically in the Pin Valley and on the periphery of the Great Himalayan National Park home to Ibex, Snow Leopards, Himalayan Black and Brown bears and numerous birdlife. Mud is a small hamlet and we camp just outside.

Day 5: Mud to Gulling (3-4 hours) Walk along the valley floor, pass green fields of potato and barley and enjoy the magnificent views of the barren landscape and towering mountains. Camp outside the village.

Day 6: Today we walk up to the Kungri Monastery high up in a rock cleft. There is also a new monastery here now built with the assistance of Japanese Buddhists. The older monastery contains precious frescoes and manuscripts dating back tot the 11th century. Moreover, there is a possibility of catching one of their colourful masked dances. Evening return to camp.

Day 7: We take transportation to Manali. Where we reach by late evening and check into a hotel / guesthouse.
