The
trail leaves Jagatsukh village, 6 Kms south of Manali. Ascending
through small shrubby land and verdant meadows the trail
enters a heavily forested gorge with streams flowing by.
May through September is the best time to trek here as you
get to see hundreds of wildflowers all around. Ascending
through a once glaciated region the trail is essentially
a shepherd's path used by the nomadic Gaddis and Gujjars.
A most rewarding trek in its scenic splendor.
Day 1: Manali-Jagatsukh-Chikka. 5-6 hours.
Gradual climb from the village of Jagatsukh once the capital
of Kullu state, 6 Kms south of Manali. Along the Jagatsukh
stream through forests and grazing pastures for about five
hours to reach Chikka (2960m) a pleasant alpine meadow.
Camp.
Day 2: Chikka - Seri: 4-5 hours.
The trail climbs steadily towards our next campsite in the
beautiful meadows of Seri. Beautiful wild alpine flowers.
Extensive views of the Pir Panjal ranges to the north. Seri
lies at the base of the Deo Tibba Base camp. A small glacial
lake nearby. Camp.
Day 3: Seri- Chandertal and back. 3-4 hours.
The trail climbs steeply, cross a stream and a small campsite.
This tiny lake is high up on a mountain ridge. Spend a few
hours admiring the extensive views of the surrounding mountain
peaks before returning to our Seri camp.
Day 4: Seri - Chikka. 3-4 hours.
Return the way we came to camp at Chikka. Relaxed evening
with a campfire.
Day 5: Chikka- Jagatsukh - Manali. 5 hours
Return to Jagatsukh village from where we can take surface
transport back to Manali.
